NAPTIP SIGNED MOU WITH DUTCH NATIONAL POLICE, KLPD

A memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Dutch National Police KLPD and NAPTIP to cover mutual areas of training and manpower development for increased expertise and best practices in Trafficking in Persons.

The agreement was executed early December during the working visit of the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive of NAPTIP, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba to Netherland.

The Director Legal and Prosecution of NAPTIP Barrister Opotu Shaibu signed on behalf of NAPTIP, while Mr. Roger Bos, Deputy National Prosecution and Mr. Chris Van der mast, Acting Head LPOL signed on behalf of the National Prosecutor Service of the Netherland.

The agreement, which is a three years cooperation programme, is aimed at developing mutual capacity and cooperation while creating synergy between both countries in preventing and combating human trafficking and related organized crime.

According to the Executive Secretary, the core content of the agreement will dwell on training and capacity building for NAPTIP and other law enforcement organization using the train the trainer format and Naptip officers as facilitators.

The training will cover areas including victim’s detection modules, seminar for law enforcement, prosecutors and Judges on mutual legal assistance and international cooperation, digital evidence gathering, information storage process and retrieval, crime analysis and basic investigation skills and criminal assets recovery and seizure.

The programme will run in both countries will also share best practices and be subject to annual evaluatory mechanism.

Commenting on her return, the Executive Secretary said, the training will benefit NAPTIP investigation officers, while others will be trained using the TOT facility in the programme.
