A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State has sentenced one Mr. Isaiah Okon Effiong to 5 years imprisonment without an option of fine for sexually abusing a 5 year old girl, an offence contrary to the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.
Effiong was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Uyo on a one count charge by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on behalf of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation on April 12, 2017.
Effiong, 20 years, who hails from Ifa-Atai in Uyo L.G.A of the state pleaded guilty to the offence.
Consequently, Honourable Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu convicted him and sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The Acting Director-General, Mr. Abdulrazak Dangiri, reacting to the conviction applauded the legal officers for their wonderful prosecution and reiterated the Agency’s resolve to protect Nigerian children from the claws of human traffickers.
