The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in collaboration with the UK Cabinet office have concluded plans for the commencement of the second phase of its’ enlightenment campaign tagged “Not For Sale” which is a component of its awareness creation strategies.
The #NotforSale Campaign is a strategic communication programme launched in March, 2019 with the support of the UK Government seeks primarily to address human trafficking and irregular migration in pilot states like Edo and Delta States.
Areas targeted in the first phase of the enlightenment programme included Edo, Delta, Lagos and Akwa Ibom States.
The main focus of the campaign is to develop the capacity and knowledge of young persons to understand that they are not commodities to be sold. To let them have the right mindset about what the Not for Sale Campaign is about. It will also focus on sharpening the skills and enlighten young persons as well as their parents who are vulnerable to trafficking, on the dangers of human trafficking as well as expose them to some of the potentials that abound around them as alternative to illegal migration.
The campaign will also showcase some of the youths who have stood out in Nigeria by saying no to trafficking and have become masters of their dreams in their chosen fields of vocation.
Activities lined up during the planned second phase of the campaign include stakeholders meeting, town hall meeting, community dialogue with critical partners in tagged areas, sensitization in schools, markets, places of worship as well as advocacy visits to some policy makers.
The event which shall be declared open by the Director General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah – Donli, shall take place in Ikpoba Okha and Ika North areas of Edo and Delta States respectively.
