In line with the directive of the President on the swapping of headship of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the National Commission For Refugees Migrants And Internally Displaced Persons (NCFR), administrative work has commenced in NAPTIP for the full implementation of the directive.
It would be recalled that the President, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr. Shehu Garba, has approved the movement.
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the swapping of positions by two heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
“This is in order to realize and sustain government’s abiding desire for effective and efficient service delivery in the two organisations.
“Consequently, Mrs. Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim the current Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) takes over from Sen. Basheer Garba Mohammed as the Honourable Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), while Senator Mohammed becomes the new Director General of NAPTIP.
“The President further directs that the changes should be effected after comprehensive handover notes to successors,” the Presidential statement said.
The outgoing NAPTIP boss who is the 5th Director General since the creation of the Agency in 2004, no doubt created an indelible landmarks that would not be forgotten easily. These modest achievements include the unveiling and expansion of the operational scope of the Agency with the opening of more State Commands Regional Directorates and smoothen of working relationship with array of partners of the Agency despite her short -lived tenure.
It is also on record that her Six Months stay as the Director General of the Agency was characterized by high morale on the part of the Officers and Men of the agency because many of them were elevated to the position of higher responsibilities.
Prominent also among the giant strides of the outgoing Director General of NAPTIP is her well-caved project 4s and 4R. This means Spread into States, Strategize to Salvage, Support and Safeguard as well as Sustain and Seal.
The 4R stands for Research and Data Base Development, Resource Mobilization, Revenue Generation Drive and Remittances as well as Rehabilitation and Reintegration.
These are laudable policies and measures aimed at changing the narrative of human trafficking with all- inclusive societal approach and making the Agency a more responsive organ of Government.
This therefore has strengthened our organizational framework, Nigeria’s practical commitment and national response in the fight against human trafficking.
The stage is now set to bid her farewell and welcome the incoming Director General, Senator Basheer Garba.
